ZABROST WIELKI

Warto jest zajrzeć do miejscowości Zabrost Wielki  – niezwykłej wsi historycznej, która w 2003 roku została laureatem konkursu na „Najlepiej zachowaną wieś historyczną Warmii i Mazur” w ramach ogłoszonego przez Stowarzyszenie Borussia projektu „Nowe życie pod starymi dachami”.

It is worth visiting Zabrost Wielki – an unusual historical village, which in 2003 won the competition for the “Best preserved historical village in Warmia and Mazury” as part of the “New life under old roofs” project announced by the Borussia Association.

Zabrost Wielki, formerly called Gross Sobrost, was established in the 16th century as a nobleman’s village with a manor house. The village was built according to a complex project of the Berlin architect Karl Kujath, as part of the reconstruction after World War I.

Zabrost Wielki is a compact group of buildings, the architecture of which contains elements of the Masurian building tradition: boarded gables, stylized pazdur and wind gates. Several interesting timber-framed cottages with arcades have survived in the village. These are dwelling houses together with farm buildings, between which there is a high, parade gate.
